January Theme: The New Years Ride
ARTIST BIO:

NAME:
Trevor V. (a.k.a. Anony Mowse or F2B – depending on where you find me.)

AGE:
If one is even remotely familiar with the works of Douglas Adams, or simply performs a Google search on the query, “What’s the answer to life, the universe, and everything?” that person will have a pretty good idea as to just how old I am.

LOCATION: Cupertino, CA

EXPERIENCE WITH BICYCLES:
I consider myself a casual rider, though I don’t own a car and a bike is my primary mode of transportation, which probably counts for something. When I was a young lad, I received a bicycle from the Boy Scouts of America for collecting the most newspapers (this was long before curbside recycling was the norm). Though a relatively crappy bike in terms of quality, it served me well for many years, that is until someone decided it was worth the effort to steal. I replaced that bike with an upgrade from REI along with a better lock. I’ve had that bike for over 20 years now, and it’s still going strong – though I can’t make the same claim about the lock. I do most of my own bike repairs, though I confess I lack the patience to true wheels. For the past fours years now, I’ve joined fellow SJBP volunteers at the annual Turning Wheels for Kids Big Bike Build.

HOW DID I FIRST HEAR OF SJ BIKE PARTY?
My brother-in-law is one of the group’s founding members. Let’s just say the Party’s existence and his involvement wasn’t exactly a well-guarded secret.

WHAT ARE MY THOUGHTS ABOUT SJBP AND ITS EFFECTS ON SAN JOSE?
I’m all for it. ‘Nuff said.

WHAT ARE MY THOUGHTS ON SJBP ARTWORK?
To be honest, I really hadn’t given it much thought until my friend, Katie suggested on Thanksgiving that I make a cover image, to which I said, “Sure.”

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE TYPE OF ART YOU’RE DOING NOW?
First of all, credit needs to be given where credit is due. The cherub in this image was illustrated by a gentleman by the name of J.C. Leyendecker. The image originally appeared on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post circa 1926. In the original version, the New Years baby is wielding an axe. I reworked that image so that the tyke now clenches a bike. Now, that’s what I call “progress”. Like the cherub, most of my “artwork” is strictly Photoshop work. I never had any formal art training per se. As a biology major, artwork was never really a part of my curriculum, though I did take several art history electives during my junior college days. When I attended SJSU, I took advantage of the school’s student discount program and purchased my first Adobe Creative Suite, mainly because it was such a great buy. I knew absolutely nothing about Photoshop, nor any of the other programs included in the suite, but PS was the only one I really was interested in exploring. I tried Illustrator, but hated the interface. I stuck with Photoshop and use it to this day. I rarely do PS work for monetary gain, it’s just a hobby that I enjoy doing. I have a blog that’s mostly devoted to Doctor Who fandom. I’m one of the hosts on the Doctor Who podcast, ‘Wanderers in the 4th Dimension’ (available via iTunes). As one might surmise, much of my Photoshop work is Doctor Who-themed. That work, along with my other Photoshop hobby, ‘80s movies mash-ups (whereby I take two ‘80s era movies and amalgamate them) can be found on my tumblr. site (see below).
