Silicon Valley Roller Girls will be giving a demo of the fast paced sport of roller derby this Friday during the Flower Power Ride. As you may know, San Jose Skate, their current practice space and bouting venue, is closing permanently on June 1, 2014. Just like San Jose Bike Party, Silicon Valley Roller Girls are deep in the community and help keep young girls and women active in a sport that they  love. Funny, just like cycling.
In addition, just like bike party, they give back to their community by volunteering in community events and donating money to local charities such as Sacred Heart, Veggielution, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, Career Closet and others.
Help them afford a new space so they can keep our programs running. Click on this link to fundrazr for more detail on helping out our friends.
Like us, these ladies have history
After attending a flat track roller derby bout at the San Jose Civic auditorium in 2007, two women decided that the South Bay area needed their own roller derby league. They soon found that they were not alone. Recruitment and training commenced at a brisk pace, culminating in Silicon Valley Roller Girls’ very first bout in March of 2008 in Santa Cruz. The inaugural home bout was held that August at San Jose Skate roller rink in south San Jose.
